Experienced practitioner of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
Private Practice:
Sees individuals,
groups, couples, and families. Has training in all of these
treatment modalities. Also does supervision of therapists seeing
individuals and groups.
Approach to Treatment:
I focus on
clarifying the pain and distress that moves someone to seek
psychotherapeutic work and on what that person(s) hopes to achieve by
doing so. We explore what difficulties prevent someone from achieving
the life they want to live, and how these issues interfere in their
relationship and work life. Through such understanding we move to
more vital energy in which one starts choosing more creative and
satisfying ways of being. Of course, such therapeutic work is
accomplished in a non-judgmental setting that is safe, mutually
respectful, and caring for that individual, couple, or family member.
Orientation:
Comes from knowledge of
many different approaches: psychoanalytic, Jungian, gestalt,
existential, phenomenological, and experiential, as well as the newer
cognitive/behavioral approaches such as EMDR for the treatment of
trauma.
I practice in the humanist tradition that views the individual as striving and creative, doing his/her best to harmonize one's many self aspects, relationships, and cultural traditions in this complicated and challenging world in which we currently live.
